Utilizing cutting-edge solar reflectometers, our lab provides precise measurements of a material’s ability to absorb solar radiation. Our comprehensive testing solutions help optimize photovoltaic panels, solar thermal collectors, and energy-efficient building materials. With our decades of experience and commitment to quality, you can trust us to deliver accurate, reliable data that enhances your solar energy projects.

Applications
What is solar absorptance?
Solar absorptance (α) is the fraction of the incident solar energy that is absorbed by a material. It ranges from 0 to 1, where 0 indicates that no solar energy is absorbed (all is reflected or transmitted), and 1 indicates that all solar energy is absorbed (none is reflected or transmitted).
Our testing procedures
Surface Optics offers solar absorptance testing in accordance with ASTM E903 and ASTM C1549.
