Larger office, manufacturing, and development electro-optics lab positions company for future growth
Surface Optics, a leading technology supplier for optical property characterization, spectral imaging, and thin-film coating services, announced the expansion of its main facility in San Diego, California. The completed construction to 20,000 square feet is a substantial upgrade, providing the necessary infrastructure for the company to build upon its current momentum and growing sales in the United States and international markets.
The remodeled facility houses engineering, manufacturing, lab, and administrative areas, with 5,000 sq. ft for manufacturing, electronics, optics labs, and 3,500 sq. ft dedicated thin-film coatings cleanroom with a total of five coatings chambers for developmental and production programs.
“With this remodel, we are investing in an attractive, highly modern working environment for our team. As an advanced tech manufacturing firm, our facility is a central component of our success,” stated Marian Geremia, CFO/COO at Surface Optics. “The remodel puts Surface Optics in an excellent position for future company growth while maintaining our desirable location in Southern California’s thriving aerospace and defense industry.”
After years of continued growth, necessitating the lease of additional nearby manufacturing space, Surface Optics began renovation of the building in Rancho Bernardo (North County San Diego) in November 2019. Along with the enhanced product development and manufacturing areas, Surface Optics has concurrently invested in new capital equipment to bring more significant electro-optic engineering capability in-house and thereby accelerate the development time of custom EO/IR systems for their customers.
“Surface Optics is committed to being on the forefront of spectral imaging and industrial spectroscopy solutions. We plan to utilize the new space to continue our research and development initiatives and increasing OEM manufacturing,” said CEO Jonathan Dummer. “We are investing in differentiating technology and advanced equipment to provide additional design and engineering services to better respond to complex customer applications. For example, our new state-of-the-art optical alignment system will support the development of bespoke spectral imaging systems by increasing our rapid prototyping capability.”
