High-accuracy solar absorptance, reflectance, and transmittance measurements per ASTM E903

Surface Optics specializes in providing ASTM E903-compliant testing services to determine the solar reflectance and transmittance properties of materials. Our laboratory is equipped with advanced instrumentation and staffed by experienced professionals dedicated to delivering precise and reliable results for your solar energy, space, and material science needs.

What is ASTM E903?

ASTM E903-20 is the standard practice for performing spectral near normal-hemispherical reflectance (or transmittance) measurements over the spectral range 300 to 2500 nm with an integrating sphere spectrophotometer. The solar transmittance, reflectance, or absorptance is then obtained by calculating a weighted average with a selected solar spectral irradiance function.

Instrumentation

  • SOC410-Solar Reflectometer:  Manufactured by Surface Optics Corporation, the 410-Solar measures total reflectance at seven sub-bands in the 300-2500 nm spectral regions.
  • Cary 5000 UV-Vis-NIR Spectrophotometer: Manufactured by Agilent, the Cary 5000 UV-Vis-NIR spectrophotometer is a high-performance UV-Vis and NIR spectrophotometer with superb photometric performance in the 175–3300 nm range.
